HVAC in LaSalle

LaSalle at a glance

LaSalle is a town in Essex County, a bedroom community just south of Windsor and part of the Windsor census metropolitan area. It is named for the explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle.

What that means for your heating

Much of LaSalle is family housing from recent decades, with forced-air furnaces now due for their first or second replacement. It's a good time to consider a heat pump alongside the new furnace; see heat pumps. Newer subdivisions often have a furnace and AC installed by the builder at the same time. When one fails, the other is usually close behind, so price both before deciding.

River breezes

Homes near the Detroit River feel the damp in summer and the wind in winter. Sealing drafts and ducts helps in both seasons.

The old French shore

With Windsor, LaSalle is the oldest French settlement area in Southwestern Ontario. Early farms along the river were part of la Petite Côte, later nicknamed La Côte de Misère, the Poverty Coast, for its sandy soils. Many LaSalle homes now stand on that old farmland, and keeping a basement dry and a furnace reliable matters as much here as anywhere in the county.
