HVAC in Tecumseh

Tecumseh at a glance

Tecumseh is a town in Essex County east of Windsor with roughly 23,300 people in 2021. It is a bedroom community of Windsor with Franco-Ontarian roots, and food processing, including a Bonduelle plant, is a major local industry.

What that means for your heating

Tecumseh has a mix of older homes near its original centre and newer subdivisions. Older homes may have their second or third furnace, and ducts that predate central air. If upstairs rooms run hot, see ductwork and humidity. Split-level and back-split homes are common in older Tecumseh streets, and their lower levels often run cool while the upper bedrooms run warm. Adjusting dampers by season helps even this out.

Near the lake

Homes toward Lake St. Clair see more humidity in summer. A properly sized AC and a basement dehumidifier keep things comfortable. Homes close to the water also see more mosquitoes and midges around outdoor units, and their debris can coat the coil.

St. Anne's and the railway

The village began with St. Anne's Catholic Parish Church, built in 1858 at Lesperance and Tecumseh Road, on land first granted to Charles Lesperance in 1796. The Great Western Railway later made Tecumseh a depot and stopover, and hotels opened for travellers heading into Windsor. Older homes from that era often have tall rooms and old ducts, where a ductless system can help.
